Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo de
exponer los antecedentes de la estomatología en Cuba, la transformación que se
ha venido operando en el transcurso de los años, en congruencia con los cambios
políticos sociales realizado por el pueblo cubano. Se exponen cronológicamente
los avances alcanzados hasta el momento actual, así como sus perspectivas
futuras. La
Estomatología en nuestro país tiene antecedentes que se remontan a nuestros
aborígenes, pasando por diversos momentos históricos concretos enriqueciéndose
hasta el día de hoy en que toma dimensiones cualitativamente superiores, que
contribuyen a elevar la salud bucal y mejorar la calidad de vida de la
población. A partir del triunfo de la
revolución hasta nuestros días, ha crecido como ciencia y en estos momentos se
encuentra en una etapa de florecimiento científico, se ha continuado un
desarrollo acelerado apoyado por nuestro Comandante en Jefe, introduciendo
tecnologías de avanzadas, perfeccionando la calidad de la docencia e incrementando la solidaridad e internacionalismo
con pueblos hermanos. Al ser el trabajo una recopilación bibliográfica,
ha sido necesario recurrir a información dispersa en documentos, revista,
libros y en la red INFOMED.

A literature survey with the objective to present the backgroungs of the odontology in Cuba was made, the transformation that has taken place through all these years, together with the social political changes made by the Cuban people. The advances reached so far, as well as their future perspectives are exposed chronologically. Odontology, in our country, has backgrounds that go back to our natives, going through different concrete historical moments getting richer until now when it has qualitatively higher dimensions which contribute to increase the oral health and to improve the life quality of the population. From the triumph of the revolution to the present time, it has grown as science and in this moment it is in a stage of scientific blossoming, it has had a continuous and accelerated development supported by our leader Fidel Castro Ruz, introducing sophisticated technologies, improving the quality of teaching and increasing solidarity and internationalism with other peoples. As this work is a literature compilation, it has been necessary to appeal to dispersed information in documents, magazines, books and in the telematic network of health information in Cuba (INFOMED).
