Se describe el caso de un paciente
de 38 años de edad, que acudió al Cuerpo de Guardia del Hospital Provincial
Docente “Saturnino Lora” de Santiago de Cuba por presentar un cuerpo extraño
intraorbitario gigante en el ojo izquierdo. El diagnóstico se basó en la
anamnesis, el examen oftalmológico completo, los estudios radiográficos y la
interconsulta con especialistas de cirugía maxilofacial y neurocirugía para
verificar la ausencia o no de fracturas de las paredes orbitarias. Se decidió operar para extraer el cuerpo
extraño, con la consiguiente evisceración e implante de hidroxiapatita.

The case of a 38 years old patient, who went to the Emergency Department of the “Saturnino Lora” Teaching Provincial Hospital of Santiago de Cuba province presenting a giant intraorbital foreign body in the left eye is described. The diagnosis was based on the anamnesis, the overall ophthalmologic examination, the radiographic studies and the consultation with specialists on maxillofacial surgery and neurosurgery, to verify the absence or presence of fractures of the orbital walls. It was decided to operate in order to take the foreign body out, with the consequent evisceration and implant with hydroxylapatite.
