Se realizó un estudio descriptivo, longitudinal y prospectivo para determinar la evolución de los 105 pacientes a los cuales se implantaron prótesis de tipo RALCA en el Hospital General “Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso” de Santiago de Cuba desde enero de 1999 hasta diciembre del 2005. Fueron operadas 115 caderas y evaluadas al año del acto quirúrgico mediante el test de Harris. Entre los principales resultados sobresalieron: la incisión mínima con artroplastia primaria de cadera es más cosmética, minimiza el dolor, garantiza la ambulación precoz y disminuye la estadía y costo hospitalarios, a la vez que el paciente se incorpora más rápidamente a su medio social y el número de complicaciones a corto plazo no es significativo en comparación con las derivadas de otras técnicas operatorias.

A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out to evaluate the progress of 105 patients in whom RALCA prostheses were implanted at "Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso" General Hospital from Santiago de Cuba from January, 1999 to December, 2005. One hundred fifteen hips were operated and evaluated a year after the surgical intervention by means of Harris' test. The main results revealed that minimal incision with hip primary arthroplasty is more cosmetic, alleviates pain, warrants early ambulation and decreases hospital cost and stay, and at the same time the patient returns more quickly to his/her social environment and the number of complications in the short term is not significant, compared to those derived from other surgical techniques.
