Se realizó un estudio descriptivo y transversal para caracterizar a 900 pacientes citadinos de Santiago de Cuba (incluidos los procedentes de los 4 poblados), que acudieron a la Consulta de Referencia de Terapia Sexual del Hospital General “Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas” desde enero del 2002 hasta igual mes del 2007 por presentar trastornos sexuales. La entrevista efectuada de forma directa y personal reveló entre los principales resultados que la mayoría de los integrantes de la casuística practicaban poco la masturbación, tenían escasas fantasías sexuales y apenas utilizaban métodos anticonceptivos, con predominio del trastorno orgásmico en las mujeres y de la erección en los hombres, presumiblemente atribuidos a conflictos conyugales.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out to characterize 900 urban patients of Santiago de Cuba (including those from 4 villages) that attended the Reference Department of Sexual Therapy at the “Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas" General Hospital from January, 2002 to January, 2007 due to sexual dysfunctions. They were interviewed in a direct and personal way and the main results revealed that most of patients of the case material rarely masturbated, had a few sexual fantasies and hardly used birth-control methods, with prevalence of orgasmic dysfunction in women and erection dysfunctions in men, presumably attributed to marital conflicts.
