Se efectuó un estudio descriptivo y transversal para identificar algunas de las principales características de la sexualidad en 900 pacientes de Santiago de Cuba, procedentes de los 4 distritos urbanos y poblados, que acudieron a la consulta de Terapia Sexual del Hospital General Docente “Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso”¨ desde enero del 2002 hasta igual mes del 2007 por presentar trastornos sexuales de diversa índole. Tanto la entrevista estructurada de forma personal y directa como los resultados de las pruebas psicológicas evidenciaron un predominio de las personalidades esquizoide y ansiosa, así como también de las relaciones sexuales solamente para satisfacer a la pareja.

A descriptive and cross-sectional study was made to identify some of the characteristics of sexuality in 900 patients from Santiago de Cuba, who belonged to the 4 urban districts and neighbourhoods and attended the Sexual Therapy Outpatient Department of the “Juan Bruno Zayas” Teaching General Hospital from January, 2002 to the same month of 2007 for presenting with sexual dysfunctions of diverse nature. Both the interview structured in a personal and direct way and the results of the psychological tests evidenced prevalence of the schizoid and anxious personalities, as well as of the sexual relations only to satisfy the partner.
