A teaching intervention called "Smile to life with health" was carried out in "El Caguayo" Center of Integral Care to People Living with HIV/AIDS from Santiago de Cuba, who were assisted in this institution from September, 2005 to April, 2006. The population under study included 30 people from 15 to 30 years and over, of both sexes that besides giving their consent to participate in the trial, they had the physical and mental capacity to answer the questions of the questionnaire before and after instructing them on specific topics related to the specialty. Three groups of 10 patients each were formed, to develop the teaching activities based on affective-participative techniques, in order to provide them preliminary knowledge on oral health and then to evaluate if they had been conveniently assimilated through the statistical Mc Nemar test. The results showed highly significant differences as for the general level of knowledge on the treated matters, since they promoted an active and conscious participation of patients of the case material, in such way that it was possible to prepare them so that they perform as oral health promoters. It was recommended to proceed in the same way in other areas of the municipality.
